■Signature name origin of Washinoo
The local sake “Washinoo*” of Nishine Tow was created in 1829 (Bunsei Year 21). This
sake is named after the eagle that lived in the Iwaowashi Mountain (Mount Iwate) and it is brewed with the pure spring water found at the foot of the mountain, thus receiving the name “Washinoo”. Also, with the snow thaw of the early spring, the lingering snow boldly appears like the big eagle spreading its wings toward the summit. But it is also said that the name is take from this lingering snow shape.
(From Washinoo HP)
*Washinoo: “Washi” means eagle and the “o” here means “tail. “Washinoo” means “Tail of the eagle”.
