Otokoyama Headquarters was first established back in 1912. It has been a little over 100 years since our establishment, and until now, we have been selling "Fushimi Otoko" as our main label in the area of Kesenuma city. However, we wanted to create a sake that shows the Kesenuma characteristics, and since 10 years ago, we have developed a sake called "Soutenten", and started to put that on our market.

Ever since the Great East Japan Earthquake, our old headquarters with a wooden structure (with a small shop included) that was built back in 1932, which was nationally recognized as a cultural heritage was unfortunately destroyed and attacked by the tsunami. The empty bottles, boxes, and other materials used for exporting our sake were all stored in a small storage area, and this too, was destroyed. Many of out clients who lived in the same area were also victims of this natural disaster, leaving many of us in despair.

However, luckily, our 100 years old sake storage, which was in a higher area than the rest, was able to avoid the disaster by just a couple of meters. Since we realized this, we started it up on March 12th, the day after the disaster, and managed the temperature in the storage room. Since then, we have gotten many supports from people across Japan. But more importantly, we have gotten many words from the locals, saying "Don't let the products go to waste", and "please be the leading figure to push for the revival of this area". This has supported us to a great extent, and still is the driving force for us to keep moving forwards.
